My name is Danny Hata. I am the 8th grade Science and Science Olympiad teacher at Royal Oaks STEAM Academy. I have been with the Duarte district for 18 years and another 10 years at the LA Unified. I was born in Tokyo, Japan and came to the United States when I was 11 years old. I graduated from UC Berkeley and worked at the USC Cancer Center for while.
Course Description: The goals of the 8th Grade Science course are to introduce the students to the Integrated Sciences (Earth, Life, & Physical) for the 8th grade. The course will cover the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Examples of the topics covered are Scientific Inquiry, Measurements, Space Science, Cell Organelles, Genetics, Forces and Motion, Energy, and Waves. The goals of the Science Olympiad course are to compete in the 2024 Science Olympiad Competition – Division B in the spring with around 40 other Los Angeles County schools. The course will try to prepare the team for the 23 events that will be part of the Olympiad.
