Mr. Kevin Mac (6th Grade - Science/History)
Much of my educational philosophy and values are rooted in my family's legacy and own academic journey. Both of my parents immigrated from Cambodia after fleeing and surviving the Cambodian Genocide in the 1970s. Being a first generation Asian-American, education was strongly emphasized to ensure that I could have access to a better future for both me and my future family. Eventually, with amazing support from my family, these teachers, and peers, I became the first in my family to graduate from college and with a Sociology (B.A.) degree and a degree in Business Administration (B.A.) with Latin honors from the University of California, Irvine (UCI). I went on to Loyola Marymount University to obtain my teaching credential and started my teaching career in a small public charter school in South Los Angeles.
As an educator, my philosophy is that all students deserve the opportunity for a quality education. My goal is to mold emerging learners so that students are able to go forth and tackle the social problems that exist in our society today, to develop/share empathy for others, and for students to become open-minded lifelong learners.
Specific to 6th grade, students will begin exploring the introductory materials of the different fields of Science. Many topics will build and add complexity to what they were introduced/explored in elementary school. 6th Grade History will focus on the development of early mankind, the age of agriculture to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, etc. AVID/Homeroom will focus topics related to college and career readiness, organizational skills to be successful in middle school, socio-emotional learning, and community building within the whole class/grade level.
With that being said, I am always here and happy to support. The best way to reach me is to start a private message here on Parentsquare. Please allow up to 48 business hours (2 school days) to return your message, especially towards the end of the mid quarter and quarter grading deadlines.
Fun Fact: I enjoy traveling!
